National Title - 53 years After First Title

Bob Graham in action in the 70's group of the 81st AMTA Championships

David Goldsmith (centre, main picture) has won the National Mens 70's Championships at the 81st Aotearoa Maori Tennis Association Championships, 53 years after winning the Junior Championship at the same event in 1954 in Gisborne.

David was very proud of his achievement and said it is fantastic for him to still be part of "magnificent family oriented tournament". David is proud of his effort of winning the Junior Championships in 1954 in Gisborne which he then went on to hold again in 1955 in Dunedin and then reclaiming another title in 2007.

Of equal significance was the performance of Bob Graham (pictured) who was playing in the same division, one year after having heart bypass surgery at the tender age of 73.

Congratulations to David, Bob and Peter Thomas (pictured below) for their magnificent efforts at this years AMTA Championships in the 70's mens division.

Meanwhile, Aotearoa Maori Tennis Association President Dick Garrat (pictured below) was in full flight during his semi final victory over R. Wallace in the 50's men division. He will contest the final tomorrow morning at the ASB Waikato Tennis Centre.
