Tracey O'Connor has defeated her Mangere Combined Caro Bowl team mate Lucy Barlow in the Open Womens final of the 81st Aotearoa Maori Tennis Association Championships held at ASB Waikato Tennis Centre today.
In a tough match, both players traded blow for blow and were running all over the court in a high quality final, literally only minutes after teaming up in the doubles semi final of the same event. Many of the spectators including past champions were impressed by the standard displayed by both finalists.
O'Connor won in straight sets 6-3 6-3
In the mens event, the final will be contested between Rodney Cook and second seed Barret Franks after both players won through to the final in straight sets.
Cook had to overcome two rain delays and the number one seed Jackson Bodle to advance through, whilst Franks accounted for Waipa Tennis Academy Director Quentin Wallace in the other semi final.
The final between Franks and Cook will be played tomorrow at the ASB Waikato Tennis Centre.
