Kiwis Doing Well in Doubles Overseas

Kiwis Marcus Daniell, Marvin Baker and Dan King-Turner all had good doubles results over the weekend at their respective tournaments.

Marcus Daniell and German partner Gero Kretshmer won the doubles title at the US$10,000 Men’s Event in Antayla-Belconti, Turkey, thrashing Tomislav Brkic (BIH) and Mislav Hizek (CRO) 6-0 6-2 in the final.

Meanwhile, Marvin Barker (below) reached the final of the doubles at the US$15,000 Men’s Futures Event in Little Rock, USA.

Barker teamed up with Edward Corrie of Great Britain to reach the final. The pair lost in the third set super tiebreak against Gregory Ouellette and Tennys Sandgren (USA) 6-4 6-7(2) [8-10].

Fellow Kiwi Dan King-Turner reached the doubles semi-finals with John Millman of Australia at the US$15,000 in Kaohsiung, Taipei. The duo knocked out fourth seeds Hsin-Han Lee and Hsien-Yin Peng (TPE) in the quarterfinals 6-3 7-6(3). In the semi-finals the pair lost to top seeds Denis Matsukevitch (RUS) and Frederik Nielsen (DEN) 6-3 3-6 [8-10].

Meanwhile on the singles front, King-Turner lost to fourth seed and world number 190 Amir Weintraub (ISR) 6-3 3-6 7-6(5). Fellow Kiwi Jose ‘Rubin’ Statham reached the singles semi-finals of the US$10,000 Men’s Futures Event in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam before being forced to retire in the semi-finals.
