Tennis New Zealand is currently developing a new programme that will empower clubs of any size to deliver a quality junior programme for children aged 5 to 10.
This proposed programme supports the use of modified equipment; red, orange and green balls, appropriate sized courts, and shorter lighter racquets to suit the age, size and stage of the child. A key part of Mini Tennis is getting children to work together to learn to serve, rally, score and PLAY! from the very start of their tennis experience.
The main objectives of the proposed Mini Tennis programme are to:
1. Increase the number of junior members in tennis clubs throughout New Zealand.
2. Make it easy for any club (regardless of size) to run a thriving junior programme for children
aged 5 to 10.
3. Increase the skill level of children to ensure they master basic tennis technique, giving them
the competence and confidence to continue playing tennis.
4. Encourage parents to get actively involved in helping their children learn to play tennis.
We would like as many people as possible to learn about this proposed programme and have the chance to provide us with input. Tennis has a wide range of stakeholders including players, parents, clubs, administrators, coaches, volunteers, and teachers. If you know someone who may be interested in the proposed Mini Tennis concept then feel free to pass it on to them.
The concept can be viewed here and any input you have should be directed to email@example.com
We look forward to hearing from you.
