Marina Erakovic has scored a straight set win in the first round of the WTA Bank of the West Classic, event in Stanford, California.
The eighth seeded Erakovic beat qualifier, Jana Juricova (Slovakia) 6-2 6-2 in one hour 11 minutes breaking her opponents serve five times to progress to the second round where she’ll face Urszula Radwanska (Poland) who Erakovic beat in her opening round at WImbledon a few weeks ago.

Erakovic (above) also played her doubles this afternoon, Teaming up with Britain’s Heather Watson they beat Sesil Karatantcheva (Kazakhstan) and Japan’s Erika Sema 6-3 3-6 [10-5].
Top seed for the tournament, which has a total prize pool of US$740,000 is Wimbledon champion Serena Williams followed by top 10 player Marion Bartoli.
Meanwhile, fellow Kiwi Dan King-Turner (below) has had a good start to the US$15,000 Futures at Saskatoon in Canada. He won his final round qualifying over Canadian Kevin Kylar 6-2 6-2 and is now the sixth seed in the main draw singles where he will play American, Spencer Feldman.

In the doubles main draw King-Turner and Japanese partner, Yasutaka Uchiyama are the tournament top seeds and won their first round match 6-3 6-2 against Americans Sahak Bazrganian and Alex Sarkissian.
